Transition from Primary Curriculum Overview Starting Year 7 is a big step in a child’s education at the moment under the British system where pupils move from being in Primary to Secondary School. We acknowledge the anxiety this move can sometimes cause and work with Year 6 pupils to help them prepare for their first day in Secondary. As part of the transition process our own Year 6 are taught some lessons in Mathematics, Science and English by Secondary specialists.
For children aged 11 to 14; they study English as a First or Second Language, Science, ICT Maths.
Key Stage 3: age 11 – 13 Form1 -Form2 Grade 6 -Grade 7
The Key Stage 3 curriculum guides your child’s learning in the first three years of secondary school education. At The British Isles School we provide a wide range of subject experience to allow pupils to develop a broad spectrum of skills and knowledge. For children aged 14 to 16; they study a wide range of subject.
Year 7 – 8 Curriculum
Pupils in Year 7 and 8 study a varied curriculum loosely based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. Subjects studied include English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Art & Design, Performing Arts, Music, French, Computing, PSHE, French Foreign Language, C.C. Socials, and Physical Education. Lessons are normally delivered in single (60 minute) slots
Year 9 Form3 Grade 8 Curriculum
In Year 9 we continue to build upon the subjects taught in the previous two years although in Science and Mathematics pupils start to access GCSE-level content. Subjects studied include English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Art & Design, Drama, Music, French, Computing, PSHE, C.C. Socials and Physical Education. Lessons are delivered in single (60 minute) slots and, very occasionally doubles (2h). Towards the end of Term 1 of Year 9 pupils begin to receive advice and support on choosing the subjects they may wish to study in Years 10 and 11. An information event for parents as well as an options day for pupils is arranged before pupils are asked to decide on the final subjects they will study in Year 10.
At the end of Year 9, the curriculum content becomes more specific as students begin a two-year programme (Key Stage 4) leading to IGCSE examinations (www.edexcel.com). Students at this stage study the core subjects of English, Mathematics, French and ICT and optional subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, History, Geography and Art.
Upper secondary
Stage 4: Age 14 – 16 Year 10-11 Form4 - Form5 Grade 9 Grade 10
We follow the English national curriculum, which is broken down into Primary and Secondary school years. In Year 11, students’ studies culminate in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations, which are internationally recognised.
Following these exams, student’s transition to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme or A Levels during Years 12 and 13.
Our curriculum challenges students to develop a high level of knowledge in addition to key critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Both the English National Curriculum (GCSE and A Levels) and the IB Diploma Programme include many real-world applications to prepare students for success. We emphasise personalised learning and deliver curricula that meet the unique needs of each student.
. Key Stage 4 offers your child a broad, diverse and stimulating curriculum that results in achieving the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) award in a variety of subjects. Natural setting, leverage our city’s geopolitical importance and explore the diversity of its people.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (9–1)
These resources and qualifications, have been written for the new International GCSE (9–1), with progression, international relevance, exam practice and support at their core. International GCSE is a globally recognised qualification for international learners aged 14-16. It’s part of iProgress, our complete series of academic qualifications and resources for 5 to 19 year-olds, for international schools including iPrimary, iLowerSecondary, International GCSE (IG), GCSE, International Advanced level (IAL), GCE A level.
